Parents' hearts 'shattered' over horrific accident
A 12-year-old schoolgirl has died in a tragic "game gone wrong accident" at her home, leaving her family "heartbroken" and "shattered". The youngster, named locally as Amber Peat, was found dead at a house in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, on Saturday afternoon.
Police have launched an investigation into her death, and a 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. A 13-year-old girl has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Amber's heartbroken parents said in a statement: "We are devastated by the loss of our beautiful daughter Amber. She was a kind and loving girl who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. We would like to thank everyone for their support at this difficult time. “We would also like to ask for privacy so that we can grieve in peace”.
Friends and neighbours described Amber as a "lovely" and "bubbly" girl. One friend said: "Amber was always smiling and always happy. She was a popular girl and had lots of friends. I can't believe she's gone. It's so tragic."
Another neighbour said: "I saw Amber playing in the garden with her friends just a few days ago. It's such a sad story. My thoughts are with her family and friends."
Officers were called to a report of a girl who had been injured at an address at around 3.30pm on Saturday, August 30. East Midlands Ambulance Service attended but, despite their efforts, the girl was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said: "We are investigating the circumstances of the girl's death. A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and a 13-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
"They remain in custody and our inquiries are ongoing. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident. We would like to thank the public for their help and we would urge anyone who may have any information to contact us."
