Dodgers' Hernandez Injured on HBP; IL Likely

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Edwin Hernandez was hit by a pitch on his left hand in the fourth inning of Wednesday's game against the San Francisco Giants and is likely to miss significant time.

Hernandez was hit by a pitch from Giants reliever Jarlin Garcia and immediately left the game. X-rays revealed a fracture in his left hand. He is expected to be placed on the injured list and could miss several weeks.

Hernandez is a key part of the Dodgers' offense and his absence will be a blow to the team. He is batting .280 with four home runs and 18 RBIs this season.

The Dodgers are already without third baseman Justin Turner, who is on the injured list with a hamstring injury. Hernandez's injury will further test the Dodgers' depth.

The Dodgers are scheduled to face the Giants again on Thursday and will need to find a way to replace Hernandez in the lineup. Manager Dave Roberts could move Max Muncy from second base to first base or start Matt Beaty at first base.

The Dodgers are also expected to call up a player from their minor league system to fill Hernandez's roster spot.
