Freedom to Vote Act
118th Congress (2023-2025)
Status:
This bill is in the first stage of the legislative process. It was introduced into Congress on July 18, 2023.
117th Congress (2021-2023)
Status:
This bill was introduced in a previous session of Congress but was killed due to a failed vote for cloture.
The Freedom to Vote Act requires states to establish a system of automatic voter registration (AVR) for federal elections to automatically register eligible voters when they interact with certain government agencies, such as the Department of Motor Vehicles. The bill would also expand early voting and make it easier to register to vote by mail, protect voters from intimidation and discrimination, and ensure the security of our elections.
The Freedom to Vote Act is a comprehensive bill that would make it easier for Americans to vote and protect our elections from voter suppression, partisan sabotage, gerrymandering, and dark money. The bill has been introduced in the Senate and the House of Representatives, and it is currently being considered by committees in both chambers.
